I am woman enough to admit… I enjoy salads because I am a dressing addict.
Yes, I have salad with my dressing…. and not the other way around.
How do I live with the guilt…. I will let you in on my secret… I like to fill the salad with very healthy stuff and I make the dressing from scratch.
How many times do you look at the bottle of commercial dressing and can not even pronounce half of the ingredients… well if you make the dressing from scratch with basic ingredients I feel that it makes up for the amount that I use.
Denial… maybe… but it works for me!!
Today’s recipe for Cilantro Lime Ranch also works for me… and my Handsome Hubby enjoyed it as well!!
You are going need to have this link for the home made gluten free ranch mix.. (click HERE) It’s a great recipe to keep handy because you can mix it up and store it in your spice cabinet. it’s always great to have it already made because you can whip up some ranch in no time… or make it into ranch dip for those days when you have unexpected guest. I always keep a batch made and ready to go.
I am of the age where I can’t control my dipping. NO I don’t mean like tobacco chew… .. I mean dipping my foods into sauces and dips. I have to admit, I am out of control!
Of course, being gluten free after being diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease means my dipping has slowed down some, at least public dipping… but at home – GAME ON!!
Now I know it grosses some people out how much ranch dipping goes on in this country and if you are one of those people, this is not the blog day for you. I am sharing my recipe for Ranch mix.
The great thing about this recipe is that not only is it gluten free but it’s a lot cheaper than buying mix. Most of these ingredients are probably already on your spice shelf.
THE CATCH…. Lawry’s brand of season salt will not confirm that they are gluten free or not. They are pretty sketchy in their responses… so I made up my own… so ya, you have to make up a recipe to make a recipe. I know that some people will find that as a hassle BUT just think that you will have the seasoning salt ready for other recipes as well as this one, so in my mind… totally worth it!!
Anyway… here is my dip mix recipe. Grab your bag of your favorite potato chips cause this dip is going to be a favorite of yours like it is of mine!!
Gluten Free Crab Cakes Recipe with Creamy Balsamic Dipping Sauce
Gluten Free Crab Cakes with Creamy Balsamic Dipping Sauce
I adore crab cakes!! It use to be a treat I would have as an appetizer at seafood or steakhouse restaurants, “back in the day” Of course, no place serves them gluten free so I haven’t really had them in awhile. Then one day we were shopping at our local Costco and I saw a container of lump crab meat. I stopped dead in my tracks and the first thing that came to my mind was crab cakes.
So I remember that many restaurants have tasty crab cakes, but that many have bad ones as well. On the drive home I think back to what made the difference between good crab cakes and bad. I liked the ones with large pieces of crab and didn’t have a lot of filler. But crab cakes NEED a binder. So there is a fine line between making a crab cake with good binding and “filler.” But don’t forget… you need the crumbs to also make the “crunchy” and / or “crispy” so I believe I have a good mixture of delicate crab cakes that have a nice crispiness to them.
This recipe also has a “dipping sauce” Now these are delicate crab cakes that really are not the kind you pick up and dip into the sauce. Yet this sauce is one of my favorites that I use for a lot of things… it’s easy and tasty and really works well with these crab cakes.
These are wonderful appetizers to serve at your upcoming holiday parties, date nights, during a “girls night,” while working on holiday crafts, or to a game day recipe to enjoy while watching your favorite sports teams. However, do not let that limit you… I could really enjoy these while watching “The Walking Dead” or during a Netflix movie night with my Handsome Hubby. But also consider it a great main dish recipe… with a side of veggies and a salad it would be just delightful!!
I had several tasters for this recipe and it was as big hit. I am sure you are going to enjoy these as much as we did in the development of this tasty crustacean creation!! Click here for Recipe….
As I have previously confessed, I am a serious dipper!! I love dipping things and one of my favorite things to dip into is Ranch Dressing. When I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease I was devastated that my ranch dipping was now off limits because many salad dressing contain gluten. A dear friend heard my sorrows and suggested that I try her ranch dressing recipe. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to whip up; not to mention more cost effective!! I recently served this to someone who did not know it was home made and it went unnoticed. I asked …. and was told she had not realized it wasn’t purchased. I am very confident you are going to enjoy this dressing, and once you see how easy it is to make you will say… Bye-Bye Bottle!! Click here for Recipe….
Much to the surprise of many of my non gluten free friends commercial BBQ sauce can be a hit or miss when it comes to gluten free. Yes, there are several brands of gluten free sauce, and a few sauces that have gluten free ingredients but many have gluten and are not safe for a Celiac to enjoy. Now I just want to say… I do not understand … why do we have to make any bbq sauce with gluten. It seems like an easy thing for companies to go the gluten free route, yet they don’t. Grrrrrrr!! I find this frustrating since BBQ sauce is great for many meats, fun to do during the hot summer months and a tasty dipping sauce
Well with this Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce Recipe, you will not have to worry about it. You can whip it up pretty fast and let it simmer while you prep and cook all of your food. Or you can make it in advance and have it ready to use when you need it. Now let me tell you, when creating this sauce I tasted it as I went and it was pretty darn zippy / tangy. However, once used on our favorite ribs, it was much less tangy. Handsome Hubby and I really enjoyed this and I am confident that you will also!!
