In Gilbert Arizona, there is a wonderful little store called the Gluten Free Country Store. As you can guess by the name, they cater to the needs of the Gluten Free community in the Metro Phoenix area. I truly feel lucky that I can hop into my car and go to a place where I know I can eat anything within an entire store. Okay, I haven’t eaten everything in the store, but I do know that not everybody with Celiac’s Disease can actually say they could eat everything within a store. But trust me… with the foods they have… it’s VERY tempting.
Some days I just like to drive down there and walk around and look at what new products they have. One day I was doing just that am a product caught my attention.. Shirley J’s Whisk Bliss Gluten Free. The bag says it all…
“A universal cooking base”
“Use in place of cream sauces, canned-creamed soup, milk or other cream sauce components in any of your favorite recipes”
Did the Angels come down and drop a bag of heaven in my basket… well probably not. But let’s face it… I am an “old school” kind of gal. How many recipes do I have that call for a forbidden “cream of something” soup? I couldn’t even begin to count. In my hands was a product that promised me a quick GF alternative!!! Thinking of all the tasty recipes of my past, which I cannot enjoy now that I am Gluten Free, I greedily placed the large bag into my basket and rushed to check out.
Upon returning home, I started to have doubts that Shirley J is legitimate. Wondering if I have been fooled yet again. I have fallen prey to a pretty package and promise to give Gluten Free options to a food desire of mine? There is only one way to find out… Saying to myself “Shirley J, Girl, don’t let me down!!”
The directions are so simply. Measure 1 part whisk bliss, Add 4 parts water, whisk lightly, bring to a slow boil and simmer for 5 minutes. TA-DAAAAAA!! Fine, there is no Ta-Da on the package, but there should have been.
In the end… Shirley J was legit!! What a quick way to have a cream base. I have played around with this product and have tried a few of Shirley J’s recipes as well. Please check back for recipe postings using this delightful product… that is when you are not too busy walking down the aisles of your regular grocery stores, thumbing your nose at those little cans of your past, saying “HA! I don’t need you anymore!” You know the ones that make you sicker than a dog but that offer condensed soup convenience in the kitchen. Well that is just too high of a cost for me… Trust me Shirley J has got your back!!
If you do not have the option of strolling down the to the Gluten Free Country Store in Gilbert Arizona, please know that you can purchase this product online through one of my favorite websites.. AMAZON.COM!! Shirley J has a wide selection of NON gluten free products so please make sure you get the Whisk Bliss Gluten Free.
